This month I've been working on a some new paintings. I always love going back to where it all started (original map paintings) and this time I've had 2 commissions and 2 large scale paintings for an upcoming solo show to complete (more details about that later). One of the commissions I've been painting is of the island of Oahu, Hawaii. It's such an interesting shape that I was excited to get my teeth into this. The customer is a geographer, so I decided to use relief elements within the island.
I always start with the white areas, and then the sea.
Now the painting is starting to take shape.
The final piece. I used gradations of green up to the highest areas of the island. Very happy with this one - just makes me want to visit the island and see that amazing topography for myself!
